Despite the recent economic news, temporary staffing continues to be a great option for marketing professionals.  BtoBonline commented on this in their article, Economy Stokes Trend Toward Short-Term Marketing Hires.  In order to cut costs, many companies are reducing their full-time head count and are hiring temporary workers on an as-needed basis.  Most recently the marketing industry has seen a 50% spike in the number of temporary positions.  The Tampa Tribune also discusses this trend in Temp Agencies Are Attracting More Professionals.  This article discusses how professional workers are increasingly working with staffing agencies in project-based and consulting engagements as a way to meet their compensation and professional goals

When preparing yourself for an interview, it can be hard to determine whether you are ready or not.  A little extra preparation always helps, but it can be hard to figure out what more you can do to be prepared.  Mashable has posted a great collection of 9 Sites for Successful Job Interviews.  The list of resources includes an interview support community (interviewup), answers on how to handle touchy subjects (AceTheInterview), and even what to do if you don’t get the job (CareerLab).  When going into an interview the bigger the advantage you can have the better.  So if you have an interview coming up, you should definitely look at Mashable’s list to see if there is anything you might have missed.

Following release last week of CareerBuilder’s Social Media Survey, Andy Beal followed with a great article which summed up the takeaways from a reputation management perspective.  In his article, Job Hunting Reputation Management: Scary Stats & 3 Tactics You Can Use, Andy starts by point out that 33% of the employers who use social networks have rejected candidates based on their social media profiles.  Andy, a reputation management expert himself, gives advice on handling negative information about yourself and adjusting your social media profiles to act as a boost in your job hunt.  Andy sums up his advice in three simple tips:

  • Be Proactive
  • Refrain from Responding in Kind
  • Remember that Google never forgets

If you are looking for how to protect yourself from losing a job because of the internet, you should check out Andy’s article.
